As the sun and its warmth are starting to peek through the clouds again, new spring and summer home design trends are emerging, too! And while cream and grey may still be the base color of choice for several interiors, accent colors are becoming bolder than ever! I'm having so much fun exploring richer pigments for accent walls, random pieces of furniture, and interior accessories. Shades of purple and striking hues of green are making their way into homes, and I'm loving every minute of it!

Every year, the Pantone Color Institute chooses various colors that will be trending throughout the upcoming seasons, specifically selecting one as color of the year. The 2018 color of the year is "Ultra Violet", a bright purple shade reminiscent of the late, great Prince; a beautiful hue expressing originality and assertiveness. I've totally jumped on board of the Ultra Violet train by adding accents to our home and in client homes as well. Several clients have asked how I can incorporate this brazen color into their homes without changing the entire look of a room shelling out major cash. Here are a few key ways to incorporate this trend into your home without completely altering the entire look of your chosen room:

  1. Paint a small accent wall - Give your room a mini face lift by choosing a small wall to paint. Make sure the hue coordinates with your existing furniture, and don't forget to start with a primer so you won't run into any problems when you repaint again in the future.
  2. Swap out accent pieces - One of my favorite places to grab quality, unique home accessories is Home Goods. If you are a bit hesitate to go bold with the purple or green trend, pick up a new vase, some candles, a few throw pillows, or a blanket - all beautiful ways to incorporate this fabulous spring trend.
  3. Utilize nature - A beautiful bouquet of flowers, fresh or faux, totally transforms a room. Whether you have a bouquet professionally made or you pick up some beautiful blooms from Fresh Market or you stop into Michael's to create your own bunch, add pops of purple or green to your room through flowers, the trusty spring trend that never grows old.

Have fun with richer pigments. Step outside of your designing comfort zone by adding pops of color to one of the rooms of your home, and make sure to take photos and tag me on Instagram so I can see your lovely new additions!

Stylishly, Brittany
